GENDER & CHILD PROTECTION

Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

AVCOH-Uganda facilitated development of SOP which is a standard documents which gives procedures and guidelines to all the actors working to prevent and respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Lira district and all districts in Central North; This was done with support from JCRC and Lira district Local Government, today this documents has been passed out by the Council as the working document in the District.

 

Prevention and Response to GBV

AVCOH-Uganda conducted 12 radio talk shows to sensitize young people and the communities on the right to education peace building, prevention and responses of GBV.

The topics were how youth can be peace builders in their own society, youth as vibrant future leaders, the forms, effects and the causes of GBV and the need for intervention. The organization also provided support to survivors of GBV.

We are honored for our Government of Uganda for different policies developed that promote and support women. Affirmative Action is placed rightly and this has caused tremendous changes in our country system, it is awesome to recognize the efforts of theses great women powerfully and professionally changing our country!

Promotion and protection of Children’s Rights
Together with other Child Protection/ Gender Based Violence sector-working Group which included UNFPA, UNICEF, War Child Canada, Trans Cultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO), Child Fund International and Lira District Local Government CCI carried out awareness rising on Child protection and Gender based violence in Lango sub region; and was also involved in 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based violence.

  • Counseling and referrals to different institutions (Health centers, police & other CSOs).

  • Promoting and strengthening safe learning environment in primary schools.

  • Community educations on child protection and strengthening response mechanisms.

  • Family Group Conferencing.

  • Networking and collaboration with various stakeholders

  • Monitoring and documentation.

  • Capacity building for Government and Community Structures

  • Supporting medical examination and treatment.
