WHO WE ARE

BACK GROUND:

Alternatives To Violences Centered Organisation For Humanity (AVCOH-Uganda) is a non-profit making organization operating in Uganda with head office based in Lira, northern Uganda. The organization is registered both locally and nationally with Lira District Local Government Reg. No LDLG/11/2134 and National NGO Board Registration No LF/NGO/LR/1047, respectively.

It was started in February 2009 with a vision to empower orphans and other vulnerable children, youth, women and other disadvantaged people such as persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the post conflict region of northern Uganda. The organization was started to serve humanity and out of passion for the plight of the suffering people in northern Uganda particularly those of children, youth, women and PWDs.

To realize the vision, the organization works through providing life skills training(ICT,VSLA), livelihood support, and the provision of educational opportunities as a means to mitigate the impacts of conflicts, poverty and HIV/AIDS. Currently, the programme is operating in lango sub region with 08 Districts involves but given opportunities and resources, AVCOH-Uganda hopes to expand to other districts in the entire country.

AVCOH was started by people of humanity and passion after witnessing the state and level of suffering that children, women, PWDs) and the youth were going through, especially in Northern Uganda.

The over 25 years of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency in the region inflicted a lot of suffering to these communities especially the children, women, PWDs and the youth; where thousands of them were abducted, abused, raped, tortured and forcefully recruited into rebel ranks and witnessed all sorts of human rights abuses.
